The more personal growth and development I did, the more "fuel" and "fire" became reoccurring topics. I decided to compile it all into one place and I now use these concepts as guiding principles in my life.
Lin Manual Miranda published a series of "Good Morning/ Good Night" tweets, that he later put in a book.
One set of them changed my life forever.
Gmorning
It’s all fuel,
That first heartbreak especially.
Press record in your mind,
You will need it.
This will serve you.
Not just saying that.
I’m telling you,
It will serve you and serve you well.
But until then
Press record &
Remember it’s all fuel
(It suuucks)
It’s fuel
Gnight.
Everything you feel can be fuel.
Heartbreak. Awe. Outrage. Wonder. Fear. Love. Anger.
You can let it power the rocketship or blow up the rocketship.
But YOU’RE the rocketship.
And we need you tomorrow as much as today.
Rest and refuel.
Ryan Holiday is an author and my favorite books that he has written are about stoic philosophy (LINK HERE).
He explains the following on his Daily Stoic blog:
"Two thousand years ago, writing in his own personal journal which would become known as Meditations, Emperor Marcus Aurelius would say: “A blazing fire makes flame and brightness out of everything that is thrown into it.”
I try to use this as a metaphor for how to live my life - getting stronger and more powerful with everything that is thrown at me.
In the world of spirituality and energy, the violet flame is _____-
Sheryl Sandberg is someone I have looked up to as a female leader, as the current COO of Facebook and a former Board of Directors for The Walt Disney Company she is also a leading voice and advocate for advancing women in the workplace.
In my favorite part of her book, Lean In, she says:
“If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, don't ask what seat! Just get on."
I like to think that all of this fuel is preparing me to say yes to every rocket ship moment life throws at me.
